Why we do a "send-off day"

Relocation is stressful for pets long before the airport. New boxes appear, furniture disappears, and routines break. We always encourage families to give their pet one calm, familiar, joyful day right before departure — a walk on a favourite trail, a long beach run, or simply an unhurried afternoon outdoors. A tired, happy dog settles far more easily in the crate.

The week before

• Vet clearance. Mochi's final health certificate was issued 48 hours before the flight, with her rabies titer and microchip details already on file.
• Crate familiarity. Her IATA-compliant crate had been sitting open in the living room for three weeks, with her blanket and meals inside.
• Paperwork. Import permit, vaccination record, and airline booking were all confirmed and printed in triplicate.

Departure day

We picked Mochi up in the morning, weighed her crate, and drove straight to the cargo terminal. She walked in on her own, curled onto her blanket, and slept through the pre-flight wait. Her family sent us a photo from the other side twenty hours later: same blanket, new house, same happy dachshund.
