A Corgi's First Flight, Belted In and Ready
Published June 28, 2026

Biscuit the corgi had never left Luzon. Two weeks later he was belted into a window seat, watching the clouds go by like a seasoned traveller.
Prep started three weeks out
We introduced the carrier at home first, then in the car, then in a busy mall car park — small, incremental exposures to noise and movement. By the end, the carrier meant naps and treats, not confinement.
Departure morning
A light breakfast, a long walk, and a calm car ride. At check-in Biscuit weighed in comfortably under the cabin limit with his carrier.
In the air
He slept for most of the flight, woke for a sip of water halfway, and stood up once to reposition. No panting, no whining, no accidents.
What made the difference
- Weeks of crate conditioning rather than days
- A light, early meal instead of a full one
- No sedatives — sedation is discouraged for air travel because it affects breathing and temperature regulation at altitude
- A blanket that smelled like home
First flights set the tone for every flight after. Slow, boring preparation is the whole trick.
